Fourth of July Wreath

I can't believe June is over halfway over! The Fourth of July is just a couple weeks away. I knew I wanted to make a wreath as this is the first time I'll be decorating. I had an idea in mind and although it didn't come out exactly as I planned, I made it work.

I bought these wooden stars from Michael's. The bigger ones were in the wood isle and the smaller ones were in a baggie that I happened to stumble upon I believe by the glitter.

I wrapped a styrofoam wreath in yarn. I used Lion Brand Yarn Homespun (Bulky 5) in Hepple White. Wrapping the wreath went by SO much faster using the thicker yarn.

I painted each of the stars red, white, and blue with acrylic. The colors I used were Craft Smart Vanilla, Folk Art Engine Red, and Americana Ultra Blue Deep. I also put some glitter on a couple.

I positioned the large stars around the wreath as a background.

Then I went crazy and just glued all the rest on them. I wasn't thrilled with it. It was just too much and usually I'm not one to say that. For me, more tends to be better and glitter is always greater. But, here is one example that does not work.

I sat on it for a couple days and finally went back to it and pulled off a couple stars and scrapped off the glitter and painted over it again. It's not too different but just enough that I'm completely satisfied.

It's got a nice 3-D texture.

Here is our 4th of July entrance. I just added some paper circle-fans I'd gotten at the dollar store almost two years ago for my going away to Scotland party (PS - I can't believe it's almost been two years!!), some old oil lamps, a blue vase, a couple bells from my grandparents' collection (I was going for a liberty bell vibe), and an Uncle Sam bank.

Every 4th of July, we go to my aunt's house where she has a great view of the fireworks in her area. Unfortunately, we'll be missing that this year. Hopefully we'll be able to find some though! Do you have any plans for the 4th?

I took new pictures of my wreath!
