I decided to make my own stocking holder.
Materials Used:
-plaster Santa
-paint
-paint brushes
-Matte and Glitter Martha Stewart Decoupage
-Wooden block (3.5" length and width x 1.5" height)
-tissue paper
-cup hook (7/8 inch)
-E600 Glue
I found these Santas at Michaels. I thought they were super cute. I chose two that were slightly different.
The Santas looked good white but I decided to customize them by painting them. Here is an in-progress picture of the painting.
When the Santas were painted, I sealed them with Matte Martha Stewart Decoupage.
My dad cut me two pieces from a 2"x4" to serve as stands for the Santas.
I gave the wooden blocks a quick coat of white paint. Then I coated them in Glitter Martha Stewart Decoupage and wrapped the tissue paper around it like a present (note the sides aren't that obvious in real life), coating it in more glitter decoupage.
My wood was soft so I could just tap the cup hooks into it using a hammer and then twisted them in the rest of the way.
To finish off, I glued the Santas on top of the blocks using E600 glue.
Now I have two - one for my stocking (pictured below) and one for the stocking I will be making for Violet this weekend (at least, I better make it!).
I love them! My favorite part about this is you can really glue anything to the top of the wooden blocks! They are totally customizable.
What do you use to hang your stockings?

ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteDianna, you need to go into fulltime Santa painting. Yours look so lovely (mine would look like a 3 year old painted them). I have tried many different stocking holders and have never been satisfied. I'm charmed by yours and will be looking to make some of my own for next year.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like it! I didn't think the painting would come out that well but I was determined!
DeleteThey are just gorgeous and you are a very talented painter, so beautiful
