Moose Christmas Ornaments

Guess who's back, back again? Dianna's back. Tell your friends.

Hey everyone! I'm back! I can't believe it but somehow it's been over a year since I've posted on Craft A Spell. What have you all been up to over the last year? I've just been working and finishing up my master's degree. I just completed my second to last semester and will graduate in May! I've been doing a little bit of crafting lately and I wanted to share with you all. I'm not back 100% but I hope to get back to posting occasionally again. The first thing I wanted to share is a set of moose ornaments.

I actually made these ornaments a year ago but I finished them so close to Christmas that it was too late to share them. Now, it's the perfect timing!

You will need:
-Sculpey clay (original, in white)
-Moose cookie cutter
-Glitter
-Paint brush
-Mod Podge
-Tooth pick
-Fishing line
-Baking pan and parchment paper (and oven!)

These are super easy to make. I started off by rolling out my original Sculpey clay in white and I cut them out using a moose shaped cookie cutter I got a few years ago (I think they were part of a cookie kit from Home Goods and I bought them just because they had the moose cookie cutter). I poked a hole using a tooth pick over the back of the moose so I could later hang them. Then I baked them according to the Sculpey directions.

Next I just painted them with Mod Podge, covered them in blue, gold, silver or brown glitter, and covered them with Mod Podge again. I let them dry and repeated the steps again just to be safe. Then I flipped them over and did the other side. So, while these were incredibly easy to make, they required a lot of waiting.

To hang them up, I using fishing wire that I tied in a loop but you could use thread, ribbon, or an ornament wire!

Aren't they adorable?

I love moose!

I hope you will all come back over the next few weeks because I have quite a few Christmas related posts to share! See you again soon!

Spicing Up Christmas Ornaments Pt. 3

Here are some more Christmas ornaments I spiced up. I can't believe it but I managed to forget to take a before picture of these! I had a whole bunch of pink ornaments that were splotched with time and color loss. I'd seen a couple blogs and pictures of ornaments covered in lace so that's what I did with the first one. I just took strips of lace and hot glued them on.

It came out all right. I was planning on doing more but when I wasn't feeling it 100%, I decided glitter was needed instead. I meant to trace glitter designs on the ornament in hot pink glitter but the glitter pen exploded and all the glitter came out on the ornament so I went with it and smeared the glitter glue all over the ornament. I ended up really liking my accident! Here is what it looks like. Please note, they look much better in person! It's hard to take ornament pictures I've found.

Since the hot pink glitter glue worked so well, I decided to repeat in light pink, white, and red (respectively).

Then I had just two left. With one I wrapped it in some ribbon and added white glitter glue dots, the second I sprinkled with normal white glitter giving it a pretty frosted look.

Here is my next set of ornaments.

I learned glitter was my friend. I coated the ornaments in mod-podge, then added silver glitter, white glitter, and cellophane glitter and coated them all again in mod-podge to prevent flaking. I really like the one in cellophane! It has a nice texture. The two green ones are my favorite.

I used Windex to clean the last ornament though I didn't know the colors would just come right off. It was almost like they had just been drawn on with a marker! Although that wouldn't surprise me as it seemed pretty home-made.

I really liked the three colors (blue, yellow, and pink) so I tried to recreate it with glitter glue. It didn't exactly turn out the way I wanted especially because you can't see the tinsel inside. But, oh well!

Overall, they look much better than before! And I've still got one more day of ornaments to share! Stay tuned!

Spicing Up Christmas Ornaments Pt. 2

In my first Spicing Up Christmas post I mentioned these guys...We call them our snow angels. This is one I made when I was little with my grandmother (aka she made them). Isn't he cute?

We inherited a whole bunch more from my grandparents a few years ago and well...some were so creepy that we didn't like displaying them. I forgot to take a before picture as I tried to transform them to something similar to the one above but here is a picture of three I can't even fix. Instead of snow angels, they're more like snow demons. Maybe they have sunburn?

The ones I fixed had more human looking skin colors but they still had the same big creepy eyes and obnoxiously bright colors. I seriously don't know what my Pop Pop was thinking when he painted them! You'd almost think I did them when I was 8 or 9 but I swear I didn't! I painted over the eyes with white paint, gave them new eyes colors, and a new pupil via a sharpie marker. Then I brushed them with snow-tex to tone down the colors. Here is how they all looked in the end.

Close up of the singing trio. It sure must snow a lot in the North pole!

All this week I've been working on re-doing some old Christmas ornaments. I'm still waiting on a few to dry so I'll be sharing more later this week/end. I've got a couple others that are finished and ready to share but I took group before pictures so I don't want to spoil any of the other ones! But in the meantime I've got this plain wooden snowflake to share. Pretty boring, right?

To spice it up, I brushed the snowflake with snow-tex and then sprinkled silver glitter on it. This is how it came out!

The picture isn't that great but it looks really good! So much better!! And are you thinking, is that a Christmas tree I spy? Yes, it is! We got it today! It's resting so the branches will drop but I think I'll decorate it tonight.

Stay tuned tomorrow for more spicing up Christmas!
