Project Post: Season 10 Finale

SPOILER ALERT!

DON'T READ BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN
PROJECT RUNWAY SEASON 10 FINALE

Wow, can you believe Project Runway Season 10 is over already?

I was seriously biting my nails through the entire finale. The Project Runway judges have had a history these last few seasons of choosing people I really don't think deserve to win. For example:

Season 9: Anya winning (I don't remember having anyone in particular that I wanted to win but I didn't care for her work)

Season 7: I was rooting for Emilio Sosa who lost to Seth Aaron Henderson

Let's not forget the biggest PR judging bomb EVER - Gretchen being chosen over Mondo in Season 8!

A designer I was passionate about hadn't won since Christian Siriano in season 4. So imagine how fretful I was when it was down to Fabio and Dmitry. I was DYING in the suspense! I thought for sure that the judges would pick Fabio just to spite me.

BUT THEY DIDN'T! DMITRY WON PROJECT RUNWAY SEASON 10!! YAY!

Here is why I thought he should win. He just had so many amazing pieces!

I just want to wear all of these! Come design for me, Dmitry! We can pretend I'm famous! Although, your make up and hair choices were a little questionable. Those eyebrows made your models look a little freaky.

Fabio came in second place.

I have to admit, I was a little angry at first (totally over it now). I just don't like Fabio as a designer. But as I was reviewing all the collections on the Lifetime website, I liked his more. His pieces definitely are fresh, new, and interesting. I love the colors. I cannot tell you how happy I was that he used that hair and make up! It looked really good and a million times better than that nasty hair piece he had at his collection preview last week.

Melissa came in third.

She did a decent job. I'm glad she added some color. I really liked the texture in some of her pieces like the crackled leather. But she also had a lot of boring pieces and one that was super impractical. I actually decided to feature it above because even though the model could barely walk in it, the back was pretty cool.

My dear Christopher came in fourth.

Initially I was mad that Christopher was chosen for fourth place but as I looked through his collection online, I realized I didn't love a lot of his looks. In fact, the only one I really did love was his finale piece, that dress above. I liked the IDEA of Christopher's collection - the colors, the x-ray fabric, the distressed leather. But I didn't really like his collection so I guess he did deserve fourth. But I love you Christopher and I know you'll be back soon on Project Runway All Stars and will kill it!!

You can see all the looks in the designers' collections online here.

So yeah, that's the end of season 10! I hope you enjoyed watching as much as I did!

PS - I just wanted to note that, unless anyone asks me to do it, I will not be continuing Project Post for Project Runway All Stars. As much as I enjoy sharing my thoughts on the designers and their creations, I don't get any feedback from readers which I think is important for a blog series like this! I want to hear what you think too! I also think I've been relying on Project Post. When I don't feel like writing something, I just think oh, well I'll have Project Post this week so I can get away with it. I'm never going to be someone who blogs every day. I just don't have the time or ideas for it. Sorry! So, yeah. This was just going to be a sentence. Time for New Girl!

Project Post: Week 13

SPOILER ALERT!

DON'T READ BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN
PROJECT RUNWAY SEASON 10 EPISODE 13

Truth be told, I almost didn't write a Project Post for this week. This in between week on Project Runway used to mean something. Isn't the purpose is saying not everyone is safe for Fashion Week is that...not everyone is safe? Meaning someone should get sent home? What's the point in keeping everyone? Because that's what they did. Dmitry, Christopher, Fabio, and Melissa all had 6 weeks to design their collections. They then had to come back to New York and present their 3 strongest looks to the judges. Those with interesting pieces would get to show their entire collection at Fashion Week. Everyone got to go. Here is the order I found the designers most interesting (you probably won't be surprised):

1. Dmitry

I loved Dmitry's pieces and I'm really excited to see more! I really don't understand what the judges say when they keep mentioning that his clothes are old fashioned. I COMPLETELY disagree! I think they're young and fresh! I do think the middle look had too much going on and I could never wear something see-through but I still love it!

2. Christopher

I loved the pieces we saw when Tim Gunn went to Christopher's house. Too bad none of them fit his models and he only showed his plainer pieces. I liked the distressing technique of the bleach on leather and his idea of the x-ray fabric. I can't wait to see his other pieces on the runway!

3. Melissa

Melissa's looks were pretty boring to me but I still preferred them over Fabio. Those wigs were gross!

4. Fabio

Fabio is just not my style at all! The only thing I liked about him was the color in his fabric. It was very light and refreshing, especially compared to the darkness of the other designers. And I have to admit, some of his jewelry and purses were cool. I'm cross stitching right now and it made me think of my piece...which I really need to finish!

Who do you want for the win? As much as I love Christopher, my heart is rooting for Dmitry!

Project Post: Week 12

Spoiler Alert!

Don't read below if you haven't seen
Project Runway Season 10, Episode 12!

I can't believe we're already at that point where this was the last group of designers before the finalists get to make their collections for fashion week! All throughout most of the season, I've maintained that I wanted Christopher, Dmitry, and Sonjia to make the top three. I was pretty close with my guess.

This week, the designers had to create an avant-garde look inspired by the colors of the new L'Oreal make up line (sets entitled The Enchanted Queen, The Seductive Temptress, The Wise Mystic and The Artsy Muse). Avant-garde means experimental or innovative. I have always thought of it being ridiculous and over the top - a fashion that no one would actually wear (besides the models on the runway) but that other designers would then take inspiration from to make it wearable. To me, none of the designers really created an avant-garde look. They all looked kind of normal to me...but here's how I would rank them.

1. Christopher

It looks a little big in the front but I liked the feathers on the arms and especially the back. Although, he may have taken his Enchanted Queen make up inspiration a little too literally. It looks like something Regina from Once Upon A Time would wear (I LOVE THAT SHOW). Even though you can't see it, the make up looks really good.

2. Dmitry

What an awesome suit! His inspiration was the Wise Mystic. But it just doesn't read avant-garde.

Really, I could have cared less for any of the looks besides Christopher's and Dmitry's. They were all ugly and I really didn't like any of them. But I suppose this is the rank of those I hated a little less than the others.

3. Fabio

Fabio also had the Enchanted Queen. The reversible jacket was kind of cool but I still wouldn't want to wear it. And that dress...blech!

4. Sonjia

She had the Seductive Temptress. She didn't pick the best fabric by any means and I think that really hurt her.

5. Melissa

Again, bad fabrics. They just look so heavy. And how is this, by any means, avant-garde?!?

Just looking at these leaves me disappointed again. Seriously. I mean, I was so excited when I heard it was going to be an avant-garde challenge (I also LOVE couture and they haven't done that in a long time). Here is an example of what I think of when I think avant-garde from a past Project Runway challenge. This was from Christian Siriano and Chris March (source).

Anyways, I suppose you want to hear who made it through...

The designers going to fashion week are...
Christopher
Dmitry
Melissa
Fabio

Aww that meant poor Sonjia was out :( What a shame! I think, given more time, she would have done great! I would still rather see her collection over Melissa or Fabio's (and then I would take Melissa's over Fabio's). Maybe she needs more time to develop her style. Do you think we'll see her on Project Runway: All Stars in a season or two?

As they said on the commercial for next week's episode, no one is safe! Could someone else be out next week too?

Project Post - Week 11

Spoiler Alert!
Don't read if you haven't seen
Project Runway Season 10
Episode 11

Wow, we're almost at the end of the season! The next episode is the last episode before we're down to the final three. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. This week, the designers had to do something they've never done before - design for babies! This all has to do with the release of Heidi's baby line. They were randomly assigned kiddies who all seemed to be between one and two. They were all so adorable! But to make things more difficult, they were given robotic babies to take care of while designing. Then, last minute, they had to create an accompanying look for the mom. There were three boys and three girls and one boy and one girl look would each win and be produced by Heidi in her baby line. I'm going to rank them based on the gender since that's what the judges did. While the judges did take into account the mom outfits (which you can't really see), it was all about dem babies.

BOYS

1. Sonjia (boy look winner)

I don't know if it was the outfit or just that little boy. He was SO cute! I loved his little man outfit and she made a great piece for the mom as well.

2. Fabio

This baby outfit was super cute! But that mom outfit was terrible! I liked the idea of it but it looks super huge and unflattering on her. Based on mom outfits, he would have been #3 but baby outfits had a higher ranking for the judges so I'm doing that too.

3. Dmitry

Although I'm ranking Dmitry as #3, he wasn't last for me. His outfit was so cute. And his mom outfit was infinitely better than Fabio's (I wish you could have seen it better but her baby was half asleep and he was sprawled all over it). And it really does look like a crayon haha.

GIRLS

1. Christopher (girl look winner)

This was really no contest for me. The other two girl outfits just weren't very good.

2. Melissa

That dress was HORRIBLE! If she had just made it flowy and not a tube dress, it would have worked so much better. But her little monster face (which wasn't pictured) on the back of the jacket was really cute and fit in perfectly with Heidi's line which is why I put it just slightly over Elena.

3. Elena (out)

I was sad to see Elena go but it was time. Her baby outfit was just a little random and looked like nothing new or special. Although her mom outfit was pretty adorable!

My overall ranking for the baby outfits was just like I listed it above - Sonjia, Fabio, Dmitry, Christopher, Melissa, and Elena.

Who do you think will make it into the top three and go to fashion week? My vote is Sonjia, Dmitry, and Christopher.

Project Post: Week 10

SPOILER ALERT!

Don't read below if you haven't seen
Project Runway Season 10 Episode 10

Wow, this was a great challenge! The designers were taken to Radio City Music Hall and were asked to design a new, modern costume for the Rockettes. The winner would get their outfit produced and it would be worn in an upcoming show. I loved it! I've been to see the Rockettes before and they're just great - so classic NYC. The one downside to the episode, from a designer perspective, is that I always find these kind of challenges to be really sucky for the person who gets voted off because they're not designing something they would normally design and don't get much of a chance to show their personal design style. But it was still great! There were two super stand out designers for me this episode - Christopher and Dmitry (from the first couple episodes I would have chosen them as two of the final three). Here's why...

1. Christopher (judges' pick to win)

Wow. Christopher did an AMAZING job! The moment I saw his sketch, I knew it was going to be an amazing outfit. The New York city skyline was just an amazing choice for such an iconic piece of New York like the Rockettes. Although, his skirt wasn't my favorite, the skyline had me from the beginning. I mean, he even put it on the back!

2. Dmitry

I was really close with Christopher and Dmitry. I loved Dmitry's color and his skirt and he had a great design. Compared to these two, everyone else was just meh.

3. Fabio

It definitely had a bit of a gladiator essence. I liked it, even if I couldn't really see the Rockettes wearing it. And he needs to stop with his ridiculous hair styling.

4. Elena, Melissa, Sonjia (tie)

These three were interchangeable to me. Elena's was very shiny but I thought she did good going out of her comfort zone. I liked Sonjia's color palette even if the purple wouldn't have worked. I liked the idea of Melissa's (especially the cute hate) but she should have paid more attention to her color blocking so she didn't have a giant 1.

7. Ven (out)

Ven picked a great color and shimmer of fabric. But he let it speak for itself too much and had such a boring outfit. Sorry to see you go when you were just becoming mildly likeable, Ven.

What did you think of this challenge? Who will be out next?

Project Post: Week 9

SPOILER ALERT!

Don't read below if you haven't seen
Project Runway Season 10, Episode 9

I'm going to get right in it. This episode is one of my favorites (along with anything couture or unconventional). It's only been happening the last couple years (since Mondo rocked it). The designers had to design their own fabric. For this season, they were to be inspired by their cultural roots and they all had family members come in. I've decided to rate my favorites by taking into account their fabric design as well.

1. Dmitry (judges' winning pick)

Wow. He rocked it. ROCKED IT. That jacket was beyond amazing. And I love his cultural inspiration for his fabric.

2. Melissa

It's funny - I think Melissa has a very particular style in her designs. I only like her work when she doesn't do that style. I really liked her fabric, which was inspired by the lines of a family tree if I remember correctly...or veins like a blood line. Meh, maybe it was both.

3. Gunnar (out)

I thought Gunnar's jacket was super cute. I'm definitely into the whole equestrian/hunting vibe going on right now. I just can't believe he got kicked off. But I've been expecting it. My cousin posted a picture with him about a month ago when he did her hair so I thought he might be out even though I had no idea what their recording schedule was like. They could have filmed PR months ago.

Gunnar's fabric could look dark or positive depending on how you look at it which I liked.

4. Elena

Wow, Elena finally made something that looked like it fit well! Applause! Her fabric design is a little messy though. I think she said it was like churches.

5. Sonjia

Girl made a nice pair of pants. That always seems to be an impressive feat to the judges on PR. To me, her fabric was fine but it lacked imagination in relation to being inspired by her cultural roots. I believe she said red, white, and blue because she's American and black because she's black. I felt like she could have done more with it.

6. Christopher

This was certainly not my favorite Christopher look. He really got thrown off by the surprise family visit which we've seen a lot of designers do in the past. I liked his cute story about the lady bug inspiration but it made me sad that he just covered the fabric up with black gauze.

 7. Fabio

I'm not feeling this outfit, its styling, or the print (which he also covered in black gauze fabric - what's the point?). I could easily have tied this with Ven but Ven's fabric was a little more boring (see below)

 8. Ven

While Ven was actually made to seem human this episode (he had a sweet reunion with his sister), I'm so over his folding technique. DO SOMETHING ELSE! And his fabric was boring, even if it did have a lot of personal meaning to it that the judges didn't seem to appreciate.

What did everyone think? Were there any designs you loved but fabrics you hated or vice versa?

Side note - Does anyone out there watch Face Off? If you don't and you like Project Runway, you'd love it! Although, I think you need to like sci-fi a little bit. It's about people who do prosthetic work and costume designs for television shows - like transforming people into aliens, monsters, or even just old age make up. It's awesome! I hadn't realized it was back on so I'm frantically catching up on the episodes I've missed.

I thought for a minute about doing a Project: Face or something haha but lately my only posts have been PR related because I haven't had time for crafting. That should be changing soon! I've got a "craft station" laid out on my living room floor. I should have some time this weekend!
