Washi Tape Luggage Tag
We've got a continuing pet theme this week. It's been nearly a month already since I got my new kitten, Violet. Before she arrived, I made her a customized placemat so she wouldn't mess up her food. I sure am glad I made her one! She is a huge digger/pawer. Meaning, once she is done eating, she paws around her bowl like she's trying to hide the food she didn't eat. I've read that it's instinctual but I'm glad I have the mat! It protects my carpet from her food and her paws.
On Monday we had Emily from A Tossed Salad Life share her paracord dog collar and today I have another pet related project. It can also be translated to people life! I decided to make a luggage tag for her pet carrier.
To make your own Washi tape luggage tag, you will need:
-washi tape
-thicker paper (ie cardstock)
-contact paper
-tag stencil or cutting machine
-Velcro
-pencil, scissors, hot glue gun
I started off by tracing a tag design onto off-white card stock. I traced it twice and traced a rectangle inside one of the shapes like so:
Then I cut out the shapes and covered one side (the side that didn't have the pencil on it) in two contrasting types of Washi tape. I used blue chevron and keys.
I trimmed the excess Washi tape off and cut the rectangle out of one of the sides. Then I covered both sides in contact paper completely (one piece on the bottom and one on the top so it's completely laminated).
I cut off the excess contact paper and glued the two pieces together. I didn't glue it all the way around because I wanted a removable information piece in case I need to update the information down the line. I glued it on the two long sides and one short side. Then I used a piece of Velcro (the sticky Velcro dots) on the inside and put my information sheet inside. To make a piece to attach it to the luggage with, I just covered another piece of Washi tape with contact paper and used another sticky Velcro dot to attach it to the back.
Here is the front:
Here is the back!
I'm using mine as a rabies and pet license holder for my kitty carrier. I was told that when traveling, you should always have your rabies certificate information in case you get stopped. Some states are really picky about it.
I plan on making more of these in the future for my luggage! But I think for my next project, I might have to spruce up that old kitty carrier. We've had it for ages and I took it for Violet so I wouldn't have to buy a new one but it's pretty ugly.
