St. Patrick's Day Wreath

Okay, I caved. I decided to make a St. Patrick's Day wreath. I was having a wreath itch and found a tutorial in this month's issue of Martha Stewart Living for four leaf clover straw toppers that looked really easy to make.

I immediately thought, "Those could look really cute on a wreath!" so I set to work and got out my nice pack of scrap-booking paper and took out all my green pages.

Martha said to start off with a 5"x5" square. I made one but it was just too big. This is 4" by 4".

 Fold your square in half on the diagonal to make a triangle like this.

Snip off the edges. Note: I found this part the most difficult because Martha didn't offer too much explanation. It was hard to get both sides even and not too wonky.

This is what your clover will look like unfolded. They almost look like flowers. I think Martha cut hers more than I did.

Then to get the creases like a four leaf clover has, you fold it like this and then again the opposite way.

It's got the creases now...not that you can really telll...

Here are all my clovers. That first one is the 5"x5". I ended up trying to color it dark green with a marker and it looked really weird so I didn't use it. The one beside it is 4"x4" and the rest are 3"x3" and 2"x2". I added some green glitter to a few of them to give some variety. All my scrap-booking paper was light green in similar shades. It's hard to see but I had matte, shimmery, glossy, plaid, and a brighter more lime green.

I took a straw wreath and wrapped it in white yarn.

Instead of gluing the four leave clovers on like I've done with things in the past, I used sewing pins to stick them in place. I'm trying to be more economical. Now I can remove the shamrocks and turn it into a different wreath later.

 

I like the simplicity of it. It's got a St. Patrick's Day vibe but doesn't scream in your face.
