Pear Pie

Every year, my mom orders us some Harry and David pears. They are always so delicious! But the three of us usually can't eat them fast enough. She usually orders a box of 9 and they all ripen at the same time. We usually just cut them up or throw them in a salad but this year we wanted to try to make something different. We made a pear pie.

INGREDIENTS:

-two pie crusts
-1/2 cup sugar
-3 tablespoons flour
-1/4 teaspoon salt
-1 teaspoon cinnamon
-1 teaspoon lemon zest
-1 tablespoon butter
-1 tablespoon lemon juice
-5 cups peeled and sliced pears (about three* large pears)

*We used rather large pears...okay, REALLY large pears. Harry and David pears are gigantic! See below for size comparison.

I mean, I do not have a small cat. He may even be a bit...chubby. It's a big pear!

DIRECTIONS:

1. Combine sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, and lemon zest in a mixing bowl.

2. Line a 9 inch pie pan with one crust. Arrange pears in layers in pan, sprinkling sugar mixture over each layer. Dot with butter. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Roll out remaining dough; cut slits for steam. Moisten rim of bottom crust. Place top crust over filling. Fold edge under bottom crust, pressing to seal. Flute edge.

3. Bake at 450 degrees F for 10 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F and bake for an additional 35 to 40 minutes.

OMG this pie was so yummy! I was very sad when it was gone :( The flavors were similar to an apple pie but there was a slight difference that I really enjoyed. I think we'll have to make this again next year!
